What To Do After
Getting Saved

By Dr. Bill Vaughn

If you are a recently saved Christian you must do certain things in order to live a victorious Christian life. Without doing ALL these things it will be impossible for you to be a happy Christian.  You are now a new creation in Christ and you must live as such. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2Corinthians 5:17).

I.Now that you are saved you first need to strengthen and firmly establish your faith in your salvation. You can help do this by immediately telling someone else about how Jesus Christ just saved you. If you truly were saved you will be exceedingly happy to do this. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed” (Romans 10:11). Jesus Christ also said, Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32, 33).

II.Now that you are sure that you are saved you must realize that you indeed have just been born again as a new spiritual baby. As a babe in Christ, you must now begin to grow to spiritual maturity. You can do this only by reading, studying, meditating in and memorizing the written Word of God. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8). “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3).

III.After you begin to grow spiritually to the stature of a mature Christian, you will have to endure many temptations. As you try to live the new Christian life victoriously in the midst of those trials, you must overcome those temptations by increasing your faith. You can do that only by learning to hear God speak to you personally through His written Word. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

To hear God speak to you personally only means for you to understand mentally that He intends for you to claim His written promises personally. It does not at all mean for you to hear any audible sound or to have any emotional sensation or feeling in your physical being. Genuine faith is always active only when it is experienced totally apart from any physical or emotional experience. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). The Bible asserts the following. “Now the just shall live by faith” (Hebrews 10:38a).

As your faith increases by you hearing God speak to you personally through the Holy Bible, you still will have to assimilate more and more of His Word in order to resist those temptations. “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. . . . Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:9, 11).

Finally, to be completely victorious in your new Christian life, you must experience the very life of Jesus Christ as His Holy Spirit lives His victorious life in you. You can actually partake of His life (His victorious nature) by personally claiming His written promises. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4).

IV.The next thing that you should do as soon as possible is be baptized and become a member of a Bible believing, Bible preaching and Bible living church. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Mathew 28:18-20). “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25

V.Then you should study your Bible daily to find Biblical principles by which you should live. This is just as important as anything else that you should do immediately after being saved. The Lord Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Mathew 4:4). You can do this by taking those Biblical principles and applying them to every aspect of your daily life, especially in your relationship to God and then to all other people.

VI.There is one more absolutely essential thing that you must begin to do immediately.  You should begin to TELL OTHERS HOW YOU GOT SAVED AND TRY TO LEAD THEM TO BE SAVED ALSO. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
